The Infamous Masterson’s , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my latest trip at this establishment became a nightmarish ordeal . While the bar may appear inviting from the outside , what I found behind its threshold was appalling and beyond comprehension .
Cleanliness Issues : Squalid and Abandoned
From the moment I crossed the threshold, it was evident that cleanliness was not a priority at this bar . The ground was covered in grime , and a nauseating aroma of stale beer and uncleaned toilets polluted the entire pub. With a smell of a mixture of human waste, decay and sour vomit . The serving zone , which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and litter that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The bathroom was in even more deplorable shape — spilling over , with a shattered handle and walls covered in what I can only assume was human waste .
It wasn’t just a rare instance either. Going through other patrons’ reviews and chatting with the community, it seems that the quality of upkeep (or lack thereof) at Masterson’s is a recurring complaint. Many patrons have reported witnessing insects darting across the counter and evidence of rodent infestations in the storage spaces . For a business that serves drinks , these issues are absolutely intolerable and raise serious concerns about the integrity of their products .

Pete’s wife, Gillian , is a co-manager and frequently seen handling business . Rather than intervening to website resolve the damage done by her husband’s actions, she looks like she supports his behavior.
